Do Kids Really Need a Multivitamin? A Pediatrician’s Balanced Take
Food comes first. But real children do not eat perfectly every day. Dr. Katie Good explains when a multivitamin can be a practical nutritional safety net—and when it...
The form of a nutrient matters too. We choose ingredients with the complete formula in mind—not to make the label longer, but to build a daily multi we would feel good about giving our own kids.
Optifolin+® (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, an active form of folate the body uses directly, chosen as part of a thoughtfully built B-vitamin profile.
An active form of B12, selected intentionally rather than simply choosing the most basic option.
Pyridoxal-5'-phosphate, the active form of vitamin B6, included as part of a balanced daily multivitamin for growing kids.
8 of our 9 minerals use Albion® chelated forms—not just a few. Iodine comes from potassium iodide, the standard form. Full forms and amounts are on the label.
We look at the nutrient, the amount, the age group, dietary overlap, and established upper limits—not just whether an ingredient looks impressive on a label.
The exact nutrient forms and amounts are shown on the Supplement Facts panel so parents and practitioners can see what is actually in the formula.
No hiding behind the front label. Here is every nutrient, form, and amount in Daily Multi for both age-based servings.

Kids don’t eat perfectly every day—and they don’t need to. A multivitamin isn’t meant to replace a healthy diet. It can help provide a consistent nutritional foundation alongside the foods your child already eats.
A broad spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals helps complement your child’s daily diet.
Essential micronutrients support normal processes involved in healthy childhood growth and development.
Vitamin C, vitamin D3, zinc, selenium, and other essential nutrients support normal immune function.
B vitamins support normal energy metabolism, while vitamin D3, calcium, and magnesium support normal bone health.
THIRD-PARTY TESTED
Parents should be able to review the same finished-batch testing we review.
Current batch: CM3225-202-L4

As inventory changes, we’ll keep the current batch report available here.
Ages 1 and up: 1 scoop daily for ages 1–3, and 2 scoops daily for ages 4+.
Each container holds 60 one-scoop servings: a 60-day supply for ages 1–3, or a 30-day supply for ages 4+ at two scoops daily.
Mix the age-appropriate number of scoops into a smoothie, juice, yogurt, or another food or drink your child enjoys. Stir or blend thoroughly and follow the serving directions on the label.
We start with the nutritional goal, then choose the format that lets us deliver it responsibly in something kids can realistically take.
For Daily Multi, a powder gives us room for a comprehensive formula, meaningful nutrient amounts, and flexible age-based serving sizes.
Vitamins and minerals naturally have flavor, especially when they are included in meaningful amounts. Our goal was not to make the powder completely invisible at the expense of the formula. It was to create a comprehensive multivitamin with a mild taste that can still fit into real family life.
That is why we recommend mixing it into a smoothie, juice, yogurt, or another food or drink your child already enjoys.
Some B vitamins have to be converted by the body into an “active” form before they can be used. We chose forms that are already active: methylfolate instead of folic acid, methylcobalamin for B12, and P-5-P for B6.
It’s not a magic ingredient, just one of the careful choices we make when building a formula.
Chelated minerals are bound to amino acids like glycine. We use Albion® chelates because they’re generally well absorbed and gentle on the stomach, which matters for kids.
Every mineral in Daily Multi is an Albion® chelate except iodine, which comes from potassium iodide, the standard form.
Daily Values grew out of reference amounts designed to prevent nutrient deficiency, not to define what’s optimal for a growing child. So we think of 100% as a floor for your child’s total daily intake from food and supplements together, not the ideal amount.
A multivitamin doesn’t need to hit 100% on its own, because food fills in the rest. So we look at each nutrient individually. Where kids commonly fall short and there’s a wide safety margin, like B vitamins and vitamin C, we include more. Where food usually supplies a lot or upper limits are closer, like calcium, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin A, we include less, so the total makes sense.
More is not automatically better. Vitamin D can come from food, fortified foods, sunlight, and other supplements. Because children may use more than one product containing vitamin D—including Healthy Brain Chews—we consider total daily intake instead of maximizing the amount in each formula.
Iron needs vary a lot from child to child, and too much iron can be harmful. Many kids get enough from food, so we left it out of Daily Multi. If you have concerns about your child’s iron, talk with your pediatrician.
Yes. Our Multi and Healthy Brain Chews are designed as daily essentials that work together, and Calm + Sleep is an as-needed addition.
Both Calm + Sleep and the Multi contain magnesium. For children ages 4–8, a full serving of each adds up to 140 mg, a bit above the 110 mg upper limit for supplemental magnesium.
That limit exists mainly because extra magnesium can loosen stools. It is not a sign of danger. Both of our products use Albion® chelated magnesium, a form chosen because it is generally gentle on the stomach.
If you’d like to stay under the limit, give half a scoop of Calm + Sleep on those nights (95 mg total). Kids 9 and up are well within the limit.
We started Dr. Good's Essentials because we wanted better options for our own family: carefully built formulas, ingredients we could explain, practical formats kids could actually use, and a brand parents could trust without needing a nutrition degree to understand it.
Serious nutrition made easy enough for real family life.
